It was our god daughter's first birthday a little while ago. We struggled to think of something that we could give her that would last for the next ten years as well as remind her of how much she means to us.

Clothes were our first thought... but she wouldn't really get a kick out of that. Next we thought of getting a toy... but we felt we owed it to the little girl who stole our hearts to give her something a bit more special than a gift from the closest store.

So after we racked our brains for weeks, Darren (pictured above with the birthday girl) and I decided we would make a doona/duvet/whatever-you-call-it-where-you-are, set. We sourced some material (purple is her favourite colour), cut out some shapes and began to hand stitch the whole thing.

Music blaring, we sat cross-legged with a glass of red wine in one hand and needle in the other. We sewed and sewed and sewed... and sewed. It became like a ritual.

Long story short... here is the final product (I really should have ironed it before taking a photo of it. Oh well). Well worth the aching fingers and tingly legs we reckon. I'd love to know what do you think? x
