For the past several weeks, I've been giving my not-so-young, acne-prone skin a special treat! Specific Beauty is a new line of skincare developed by Miami-based dermatologist, Dr. Heather Woolery-Lloyd, for women of multi-hued skin tones, which range from tan, olive to brown. My light olive skin has been pestered with acne since teenagehood, so I was eager to give it a try. The regimen is simple and costs less than comparable department store options. Start with the Daily Cleanser $8.99, rinse off with a warm, damp washcloth, then apply the Skin Brightening Serum $24.99, and finish off with the Daily Hydrating Lotion SPF 30 $17.99 or Night Treatment Complex $18.99. All the products are light and non-greasy, paraben- and fragrance-free, and sink right into your skin. My favourite is the Skin Brightening Serum, which I apply in a small, thin layer on areas that have slight discoloration from past blemishes. It stings just ever so slightly, but I find it also deters the formation of future blemishes, while speeding up the process of lightening any dark spots. Thumbs up in my book!
