It started off as a bud of an idea months ago…

Breast cancer is the most common invasive cancer in females, and over 12,000 women are diagnosed with this cancer in Australia each year. I know that there’s a tonne of worthy causes out there, but for me this struck a chord. Not because of any personal battle (thankfully!) but because I know a lot of women, and to think that one in nine of these women will face their own breast cancer challenges makes me very sad.
Raising awareness for breast cancer is a huge task, one that many, many organisations and high profile people have put their money and efforts behind. But for me, there was only one thing I could think to do, to make a contribution to this cause, and that was to bring all of the women that I knew together to eat cake, drink tea and raise some money.
The idea blossomed…
Calling on my good friend (and fierce fundraiser) Angela, we started planning out what was to be our ‘Pink Ribbon Day morning tea’. She started collecting prizes for raffles (13 in total!) and I started planning out the food and party styling.
I contacted the ‘TomKat Studio’ and Kim, and the wonderful ladies not only created some beautiful invitations and party printables based on their Alice in Wonderland series, but generously did these invites for us free of charge! Thank you again ladies.
As the weeks progressed, many Wednesday craft nights held, baking marathons completed, everything came together.
The day bloomed into a wonderful event…
47 people arrived, tickets purchased, the sun shone, and over $800 was raised. It was a great day, with plenty of good food, and lots of laughs. Thank you to everyone who participated!
