Since the announcements that Prince William had finally gotten down on one knee and proposed and then when the wedding date of April 29th 2011 was set I am sure every single dress designer in the world started to dream that they would get the commission of a lifetime to design the wedding dress of century! In fact I am sure there were some who even employed a couple of PR firms, to candidly 'dropped' into circulation that 'they' were the designers 'hotly tipped' to dress Kate for the most important walk of her life [up Westminster Abbey's aisle]. For a long time the only name that seemed to keep coming up repeatedly, and with any real credibility was Bruce Oldfield and when Kate's mum and sister were pictured arriving for an appointment at 'Chez Oldfieled' I thought it was a [yet to be confirmed] done deal.

Apparently we've all been wrong! If latest reports are to be believed Kate Middleton will wear an Alexander McQueen dress designed for her by Sarah Burton. Mrs. Burton, who totally denies that she has scooped this coveted commission, joined the McQueen Team in 1996 as an intern, quickly becoming Alexander's right hand woman, after his tragic suicide she took over as Creative Director.

It's been said that Ms. Middleton first fell in love with Sarah Burton's design after seeing the wedding dress she designed for Sara Buys' wedding to Tom Parker Bowles [yes, you are right that is Camilla's son!] in 2005. When I first heard this, and the fact that Kate was looking for a dress that would stop critics calling her dress sense 'conservative' I thought that Ms. Buys dress must truly be something spectacular... when I found it I was sorely disappointed! See for yourself:

Personally I will be looking for something far more 'befitting' a future Queen and current style icon. What do you all think?

With Sarah Burton hotly denying that she is designing Kate Middleton's wedding dress who ever is 'locked up' in Buckingham Palace working on the most anticipated dress of the year I don't think we're going to be any the wiser until the big day itself...
