Prevent Osteoporosis with Tomato Juice

Healthy lifestyle plays an important role in early prevention of bone loss or osteoporosis. The team of researchers from the University of Toronto, Canada, recommends consumption of two glasses of tomato juice a day for stronger bones.


As quoted by the Daily Mail, the advice was based on a study of 60 postmenopausal women aged 50-60 years. In this study, they were asked to stop the consumption of foods containing tomatoes for a month.

As a result, there is increased levels of N-telopeptide in the blood. N-telopeptide are natural chemicals that normally enter into the blood when it occurs in bone fragility.

Over the next four months, participants were sorted into three groups with different treatment. The first group were asked to consume tomato juice every day with an average lycopene content of 15 mg. The second group received supplementation with lycopene intake of 35 mg. The last group taking a placebo or fake supplements.
