To prove it's not just all about the sugary sweetness I thought I would try my hand at something a tad healthier today. Real muesli bars, taken from Bill Granger's Everyday cookbook (recipe below). They were super easy to make and while a bit crumbly, very tasty! Not only that but you feel virtuous while you are eating them! I mean, they've got wheatgerm in them (sure had to search for that at the supermarket, they don't keep that next to the icing sugar and ready made frostings!).



I took a couple of photo's along the way to show how easy they were. Lesson for me, the beginner photographer, when it's grey and dark and you need to use the flash, don't go a stainless steel bowl!

REAL MUESLI BARS
Bill Granger (Everyday)


3 1/2 cups rolled oats
1/2 cup shredded coconut
1/2 cup flaked almonds
1/2 cup wheatgerm
1/4 cup sesame seeds
1/4 cup sunflower seeds
1/3 cup chopped dried apricots
3/4 cup honey
1/4 cup tightly packed soft brown sugar
1/4 cup vegetable oil

Preheat oven to 130C (250F) and lightly grease and line a 35 x 25 cm (14 x 10 inch) tin. Put the oats, coconut, almonds, wheatgerm, sesame seeds, sunflower seeds and apricots into a bowl.


Put the honey, sugar and oil in a small pan and stir over medium heat until the sugar has dissolved. Pour this over the dry ingredients in the bowl and stir to combine until everything is well covered.


Press the mixture into the tin and bake for 50 minutes for until golden brown. Cut into bars while still warm.
